I arrived to the Kia dealer in my $41,000 MSRP Mustang GT, about an hour after test driving a $48,000 MSRP Mustang GT, only to be told I cannot test drive the $50,000 MSRP Stinger unless I was going to buy it.
I promptly left. I get it, but still: it is a car I’m interested in, I may consider buying one in the future, but I definitely won’t consider it if I’ve never driven it...

Urgh, Some dealers are assholes, look on the bright side at least you know what they’re like before they’ve taken your money!

Who do they think they are, Bugatti? How can you buy a car without ever driving it?

Did you fit in it?

Did you give the salesperson your number? If so, I bet he’s calling you.
Also: Turo

Kia Dealers north of the border sound like absolute dicks tbh.
![]() 05/26/2018 at 16:16 |

They have a lousy reputation for being stealerships around here, though my local dealer seemed okay.
![]() 05/26/2018 at 16:17 |

They are not as much dicks as much as they just plain suck.

Note to dealer - it’s a fucking Kia, not a gold plated Ferrari.
Who the hell would buy a car they can’t drive first?

Here in Mexico they are really nice, the only dicks are over at tesla
![]() 05/26/2018 at 16:20 |

Wow, another reason why no one’s ever gonna buy one of these things.
Except for TAE, god bless him.

Mexican dealers are cool, don’t mess with em, they gave me a discount and all

Since Kias suck, they’re probably so used to selling sucky Kias that the new Sephia is a hot dollar item for them.
![]() 05/26/2018 at 16:28 |

Exactly. And what if the test drive goes sour? “Wow this sucks compared to that mustang I just drove/arrived in” “no! No, you test drove it, you’re buying it! Mr Seymour Butts?”

Tesla? That’s odd - around here they seem eager to get anyone and everyone behind the wheel for a test.

They’re probably the worst new car dealers around. Because of who Kia’s customer base has traditionally been in the US, their dealers tend be especially aggressive predators that exploit customers who don’t have a lot of other options. They’ve gotten away with it because for many of those folks getting screwed on cheap Kia at least meant they got reliable transportation with a warranty, whereas the only alternative was often getting screwed worse by a bottom of the barrel used car dealer on something that very well may not even be reliable transportation.
Like with Hyundai, I think the parent company is learning that having a dealer network built around screwing poor people becomes a problem when you want to start selling nice cars to people who have lots of other options.

Fuck ‘em. There are good ones out there. Make sure you contact Kia corporate and let them know. Shit on them on reviews online. it’s not like they’re flying off the lots anyway and these morons are making it more difficult for manufacturer.
By the way, was the $48k Mustang the 2018? how is it?

Yeah. I’m not that big, a little chubby but I’m only 5'8". Was comfortable in the front and back.

Really? Because they wouldn’t let us try one out, they also shit on other brands as if they had some sort of moral high ground
“You know, this car isn’t for people who need to take their car on the highway, they have their own jets you know, no worries about range”
Well, fuck you too!

Weird. I wonder if the local dealer who had a 10K ADM on the GT2 at launch (didn’t sell one at that price) behaved this way as well.
Try another dealer. Funny how they can behave, I remember when I was still in my 20s, driving an old W126, and I stopped by a Porsche dealer to check out a C43 AMG on the lot (not an old car then). They more or less tossed me the keys and told me to be back in no more than an hour.

Yeah I would just say that I will never buy a car I can’t drive first and walk out.
![]() 05/26/2018 at 16:57 |

I’ll never understand why they do this, very very bad for sales and brand promotion.

I don’t get it. Fuck that dealer. Fuck him with a rusty farm tool. You don’t treat a customer like that.
My kia dealer knows I’m happy with my car and not likely going to buy a Stinger right now. I said I’d like to test one. He said come in anytime and he’ll throw me the keys.

That’s what all the Subaru dealers say about test driving a WRX near me. I guy I worked with had cash to buy it outright and they still wouldn’t let him test drive.

Oh, they kind of have that attitude here, too, they just coat it in a more pleasant veneer.

They said it was their last one...but it’s not like more wouldn’t come.
Yeah, it was an 18. GT PP Auto. Didn’t like the transmission, not that it’s a bad transmission just needs the manual IMO. Otherwise it felt familiar, the higher redline than my 15 is nice but it didn’t necessarily feel much faster. I suspect a tune for mine would get it 90% of the way there

Yeah, I’ve had similar experiences. A friend and I looked at a used ATS at a Chevy dealer and were told to fuck off cause it was a “luxury car”. Ended up at a Porsche lot where my friend drove a used Cayman S, and then the salesman let me drive it even though I explicitly said I wasn’t planning on buying a car

Turo isn’t free, and no one is renting a Stinger on Turo here.

Got a similar story as well. Drove up to a Kia Dealer in my Mustang GT.
While I WAS allowed a test drive, the salesman did give the same line about not usually allowing test drives.
Does Corporate think that this is such a slam dunk they don’t have to even try to sell it? Is this a ploy to make it seem more exclusive?
I mean, its not a Hellcat or ZR1...

You can only a test drive a car you’re going to buy. What’s the point of testing it? If you’re gonna buy?
